SPIRIT OF THE RIVER

 

The river Godavari starting   from Triambak in the Western Ghats,travels 1465km,Winding its way through the Deccan plateu and Eastern ghats and finally  spreading out into the Godavari delta to meet the Bay of Bengal.

 

The Godavari delta is the Rice bowl of India.It is of tremendous natural beauty.Paddy fields spread out in all directions broken by only dense tropical fruit orchards and never ending water ways.Coconut trees,mango groves,Banana plantations,Palmyrah,cashew spreads create a real tropical paradise.

 

Centuries old villages with court yard houses and joint- families spread out alongside the river and into the delta.Visitors will be touched by the love of the people,their soft manerisms,friendly banter and  graciousness.Guest are indulged with spicy food,fish curry and tamarind rice and the numerous delta desserts.

 

The river is a way of life for generations of GODAVARITES.Providing water for the crops,livlihood for the fishermen,transporting  produce,people and cattle.
It also has a deeper spiritual meaning for these people,the gratitude for the river is manifested in the religion and culture of these extrordinery people.
